The heart of Beck is its Research Center. Contained in the Research Center is a plethora of information. The Research Center contains histories of churches, schools, social organizations and the like.
There are copies of old black weekly newspapers dating back to 1878. The Center contains a copy of virtually every black newspaper that was ever published.
The Knoxville College Collection depicts many of the activities and individuals of the college since is founding in 1875. The Austin High Collection chronicles the history and the leaders of the school since its founding in 1875.
The Research Center continues to be a resource for professionals, educational and those personally interested in African-American history. For the serious person who wants to do research, ordinary citizens or university students, our files are full of biographical sketches of everybody who has done anything of importance in the African-American community.
As captivating as the Research Center is, Beck also has an extraordinary Movie Collection in its archives. This fascinating movie collection consists of films that were made in the 1920s, 30s and 40s by black film directors. Paul Robeson, the great singer, made 12 movies. All 12 movies are in the Beck movie collection. Consequently, one cannot only come and research biographical files, but can also see a movie in the process if one chooses to do so.
A visit to Beck is like a visit back in time. We invite you to come and experience Beck today.
