In recognition of the 150th Anniversary of the American Civil War, the Beck Center will be hosting a lecture on the contributions of African-Americans during the Civil War. Dr. Frank Smith, founder and director of the African American Civil War Museum in Washington, D.D. is the lecturer. The Knoxville Chapter NAACP is hosting the Knoxville Mayoral Debate at Beck. Early voting begins Oct. 19

On Saturday, October 22, 2011 UUNIK Academy, Inc. will host its 6th Annual Calling All Males…Restoring the Village Youth Conference at the Beck Cultural Exchange Center from 9am to 3pm. UUNIK Academy’s funding is based on the generosity of others therefore the purpose of this letter is to seek your support in helping us provide the participants and presenters with the tools needed to continue the success of the conference. Our goal is to reach at least 50 boys, ages 10-17, in the Knoxville and surrounding areas. During the conference we will connect the participants with local professional men who will facilitate workshops to include Power of Images/Words, financial literacy, effective communication and Teen talk.

The Beck Cultural Exchange Center, Inc is excited to be selected as the first to host the “We Shall Not Be Moved” exhibition outside of Nashville, TN. In honor of the 51st Anniversary of the Tennessee Civil RIghts Sit-ins, this great historical exhibit will be displayed in Knoxville and shared with surrounding communities.

There will be plays, poems, speeches, and dances.

Auditions for the teen show will be Dec 11 and 18 at 1PM. Talents are, but not limited to song, dance, and spoken word.

Talent Show finals will be January  6th at 4PM

Prizes are 100, 50 , and 25.
