Odd Fellows Cemetery

Illumination Tribute

Friday evening will feature an Illumination Tribute at the Odd Fellows Cemetery. The Odd Fellows Cemetery is one of the first African American cemeteries in Knoxville and dates back to 1880. The Knoxville ReAnimation Coalition has worked diligently to ensure the preservation of this historic cemetery.  The Illumination Tribute will be a fitting prelude to the Opening Jubilee Celebration on Saturday. During the Tribute the graves of persons who were alive during the time of slavery that are buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery will be illuminated. While there is no definitive information on those who were enslaved, we recognize all of our ancestors that lived during slavery.  What we are able to say is that all in Odd Fellows Cemetery died as free men. The Jubilee is a Celebration of that freedom.
