Who Was Nat Rogers?

William Nathaniel “Nat” Rogers was born on July 21, 1893, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. A professional baseball player in the Negro Leagues, Rogers built a long and accomplished career as a corner outfielder from the 1920s through the 1940s.


Known for his consistency at the plate, Rogers achieved a 31-game hitting streak in 1927 while playing for the Chicago American Giants, one of the standout feats of his career. Over nearly two decades in organized Black baseball, he developed a reputation as a reliable and disciplined hitter.


Rogers later became manager of the Knoxville Giants, taking on the role by 1946. Even while managing, he remained an active presence on the field, occasionally playing alongside his team. Contemporary accounts described him as both a capable leader and a veteran player whose experience continued to benefit the Giants.


His career reflects both longevity and versatility, spanning roles as a player, leader, and contributor to Negro League baseball across multiple decades.
