The Beck Cultural Exchange Center (Beck), “The Place Where African American History is Preserved,” was established in 1975 as a primary repository of black history and culture in East Tennessee.  Beck, the storehouse of African American History and Culture remains dedicated to researching, collecting, conserving, preserving and exhibiting works of art, writings, artifacts, memorabilia, and other evidence of contributions relating to the history and culture of African Americans in East Tennessee and America while fostering and promoting educational, artistic and cultural activities and experiences.

While Beck is the place “Where African American History is Preserved” it is our firm belief that Beck is becoming the place “Where African American History is Transformed.” We are serious about our work.  We believe strongly that restoring and uniting our community begins by reawakening our heritage.

When you choose to invest in Beck, you can be confident in knowing that your funds:

  • Will be managed in a manner consistent with good stewardship.
  • Positively impact the present generation and generations to come.

  • Increase the value of Beck to our community.
  • Boost the Economy through increased tourism and visitation.
  • Enhance Education for all ages, young and old.
  • Change Lives, a theme that resonates throughout the museum.
